So I do not have a full phone # but I use a Google Voice number for most things now. I dislike the Google Voice app, so I thought I could add my number to my Apple ID and just messages, the Apple app. I have vision problems and I can see the Apple messages app way better than the Google Voice app. Well, when I added my number, it wouldn’t show up in my messages settings for starting new conversation with (whatever email or phone # desired). Can someone help please! I checked my mom’s and sister’s phone and id settings to see if I am doing something wrong, but idk what’s going on.
iPhone SE, iOS 14
For a long time, if you wanted to hear Google Assistant read off your incoming messages — and use your voice to reply to those messages — you needed to be using a small handful of apps to do so. In the meantime, iMessage and FaceTime both showed my Google Voice number as associated with my iCloud account, and I could use Verizon's 3G and LTE data networks, I just couldn't make any calls. It sends an invisible text message to an activation server which connects the SIM card's phone number your number with iMessage. You can log into iCloud.com and change the phone number there as well (or associate a new one). IMessage will fail to add it as an additional number for send/receive on the phone though.

Create Google Voice Account
Phil fromPhil is having issues with Google Voice, missing text messages, and voicemails. Leo says that Google has let Voice fall in quality since it bought it and may be moving away from it as a viable service. Even Hangouts isn't what it used to be. Leo used it when it was originally called Grand Central and it was great. But over the last year or so, it's really gotten hit or miss. Nowadays, Leo just uses it as a call forwarding service. But it may not be Google's fault. It may also be phone carriers who are engaging in anti-competitive behavior. Sadly, there is no real answer since Google is working on other voice options. So it's probably not going to get much better.
There are alternatives, such as Grasshopper. But he may have to pay a monthly fee for it.
